~ Good & Healthy classes begin for 2012
A new grant allows Jordan's prevention and primary care department to offer "Good & Healthy," a FREE eight-week program on Wednesdays at Noon with lunch, prizes and nutrition information starting February 29. Seating is limited. Contact Lynn Moll at (585) 423-5878 or email her to register. Thanks to our program co-sponsor and location host, The Community Place of Greater Rochester.
The program repeats on Tuesdays at 5PM starting March 20. Prefer the Fall? Register for our September 19 or October 16 sessions.
~ Jordan doctor comments on childhood obesity
WXXI's special report on childhood obesity gave Jordan pediatrician Michael Traylor, MD an opportunity to share the challenges doctors face when treating teens. This age group is particularly sensitive to body weight issues and can connect those issues to their self concept. With obesity rates and costs to wage the battle of the bulge both rising, delivering accurate information to teen and parents, and getting Rochester families adopt healthy behaviors have never been more important.

~ The doctor is in again
The US HRSA New Access Point grant allows Jordan Health Center and its project partners Pathstone and Rochester Housing Authority to establish small health care centers in three public housing complexes. In the pilot stage, a mix of medical and dental services will be available to residents of Glenwood Gardens, Kennedy Tower and Andrews Terrace Apartments, as well as families living near those communities.

Jordan to apply for new grant
Racing ahead of the millions of New Yorkers who will gain health care coverage under the Affordable Care Act, the NYS Health Foundation released an RFP for planning expansions to primary care. Jordan CEO Bridgette Wiefling, MD believes it will help increase access to care for Rochester's underserved communities and says Jordan will apply for funding. Read the article.

The H1N1 flu virus continues to spread throughout the United States. Health
conditions that increase the risk of being hospitalized from the H1N1 virus
include asthma, diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease and pregnancy. The best
