The Early Years
The first five years of life present a special opportunity to shape your child’s development. Should developmental problems arise, especially during these critical years, the Family Medicine Department is committed to helping your child manage or even overcome these obstacles through modern healthcare and advise on ways to tap into resources in our area.
The department is dedicated to minimizing Rochester children’s exposure to lead, a problem that affects a disproportionately high percentage of our local children. Lead affects the body’s neurological system, and children often ingest the metal through paint and other household materials during a time of tremendous neurological development.
What other areas of medicine should I know about to stay healthy and enjoy life?
Dentistry | Family Medicine | Obstetrics & Gynecology | Pediatrics (including Adolescents) | Prevention & Primary Care (including Behavioral Health, Hepatitis C, HIV and Subaxone for treatment of addictions) | Optometry & Podiatry | WIC. In addition, our Pharmacy & Lab offer on-site services for your convenience.
Clinical pharmacy partnership
Through Jordan’s partnership with the faculty and students at St. John Fisher Wegmans School of Pharmacy, we are able to have at least one Clinical pharmacist on site everyday to assist patients in understanding how to take their medication, explain side effects and interactions between medications and monitor anti-coagulant therapy. The Clinical Pharmacists at Jordan also work with providers to determine which medications are more financially feasible for their patients.
What should I do in case of emergency?
If patients have an emergency that cannot wait until the following business day, they should go to the nearest urgent care or emergency room, immediately. For non-urgent care, they can call for an appointment the next morning.
What is your privacy policy?
Our policy is to provide confidential healthcare. What the patient says stays between him/her and the provider. However, in the best interests of the patient, if he or she is in danger, we will let the proper people know what is happening.
How can I prepare for my appointment?
Patients should bring a list of any medications they are taking, as well as their insurance cards when they come to the Family Medicine Department.

Our philosophy is that individuals live in a complex social network consisting of many layers of interaction, beginning with self and family, and emanating out to work and community relationships, and beyond.
Stress and conflict, however subtle or blatant, can develop at any level within this intricate framework of relationships and cause or aggravate medical conditions.
In addition to managing the physical components of illness through state-of-the-art medical techniques, we help our patients examine their levels of stress, and sources of distress, to help them identify any issues that may exist, and empower them with information to tackle these issues.
In keeping with our holistic philosophy toward patient health, we coordinate care for patients seeing different specialists to unify the various components of your healthcare experience.
Healthcare at the Community Level
Our community abounds with resources to help families handle a wide variety of issues. Unfortunately, many families in need never benefit from these resources because they are not aware of them. Family Medicine at the Anthony L. Jordan Health Center is dedicated to breaking this and other barriers between our patients and vital programs that could potentially enrich their lives and demonstrate to them that they are not alone in facing life’s challenges.
Patient Education
The Family Medicine Department at the Anthony L. Jordan Health Center provides computerized, interactive materials that utilize rich graphics as well as text to help patients understand their health conditions. We also offer a wide assortment of printed education materials to empower patients with the most timely information on health issues. Certified health educators are available to address general health information as well.
Special Initiative
Richard Kennedy, MD of the Family Medicine Department helped spearhead this initiative, acting as a founding member of the Coalition to Prevent Lead Poisoning, established in 2000. He obtained a grant from Rochester Area Community Foundation to begin a primary prevention of lead poisoning -- an initiative which came to be known as Get the Lead Out (GLO).
