What should I do in case of emergency?
If patients have an emergency that cannot wait until the following business day, they should go to the nearest emergency room, immediately. For non-urgent care, they can call for an appointment the next morning.
What is your privacy policy?
Our policy is to provide confidential healthcare. What the patient says stays between him/her and the provider. However, in the best interests of the patient, if he or she is in danger, we will let the proper people know what is happening.
How can I prepare for my appointment?
Please plan to arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled visit to fill out any paperwork necessary to optimize your healthcare experience.
We also request that you bring a list of medications you are taking, your insurance cards, prior records from other healthcare providers, and emergency room records, if you have them.
Patients should avoid all types of intra-vaginal contact for 24 to 48 hours before their gynecological visits.

When Should You See Your Gynecologist?
Experts at Anthony L. Jordan Health Center suggest that a woman should start coming in for regular gynecological examinations at the age of 21, or when she becomes sexually active if she is younger than 21.
Women who are experiencing any gynecological problems, such as bleeding, pain, or abnormal discharge should schedule an appointment as soon as possible.
Maximize Your Health With Routine Exams
Anthony L. Jordan Health Center recommends that women receive checkups once a year, which include a breast exam, and a pap test that screens for cervical cancer. AJHC offers follow up on birth control use and/or hormone therapy for menopausal patients. Experts in the department will determine if a patient needs more frequent screenings based on their personal history and/or HIV status. We also offer screenings and treatment for sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), as well as HIV counseling.
Patients receive their mammograms, Dual Energy X-ray Absortiometry (DEXA) scans for osteoporosis, colonoscopy, breast and pelvic ultrasounds, infertility testing, and surgical procedures at the University of Rochester Medical Center. In general, we encourage our patients to receive a baseline mammogram between the ages of 35 and 40, followed by annual mammograms beginning at the age of 40. DEXA scans to screen for osteoporosis are usually recommended during menopause, and colonoscopies after the age of 50.
For your convenience, lab work and colposcopies (follow up tests for abnormal pap result) are done on-site.
