Obstetrics & Gynecology

Your pre-baby checklist should include insurance so that you don’t miss out on important prenatal care. If you need help with insurance, please make an appointment with Jordan Health’s financial counselors by calling 585-423-5800. No patients are turned away based on ability to pay.

Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) scans, a common bone mineral density test for osteoporosis; colposcopy; pelvic ultrasounds; and surgical procedures are recommended by provider. In general, we encourage our patients to receive a baseline mammogram between the ages of 35 and 40, followed by annual mammograms based on patient history. DEXA scans to screen for osteoporosis are usually recommended during menopause and colposcopies after the age of 50.

Jordan Health obstetrics and gynecology (OB & GYN) providers offer comprehensive female and reproductive health services including annual exams, birth control counseling and prescription, problem visits, procedures (colposcopy, biopsy, IUD), breast exams, consultations, sexually transmitted infections (STI) diagnosis and treatment, and prenatal care including CenteringPregnancy® .

All prenatal visits are prescheduled. Patients requiring other OB-GYN services can schedule a same day or next day visit by calling their local Jordan Health center.

When Should You See Your Gynecologist?

According to the experts at Jordan Health, a woman should start receiving regular gynecological examinations at the age of 21, or when she becomes sexually active if she is younger than 21.Women who are experiencing any gynecological problems, such as bleeding, pain or abnormal discharge should schedule an appointment as soon as possible.

Maximize Your Health with Routine Exams

Jordan Health recommends that women receive a checkup once a year that includes breast and pelvic exams. Check with your provider to determine when and how often you need a Pap test, which screens for cervical cancer. We offer all methods for birth control. Experts in the department will determine if a patient needs more frequent screenings based on their personal history and/or HIV status. We also offer screenings and treatment for sexually transmitted infections, as well as HIV counseling. For your convenience, lab work and colposcopies are performed on-site.

Mammography screenings are provided by Highland Breast Imaging at Anthony L. Jordan Health Center (AJHC). Individuals do not need to be a Jordan Health patient to utilize these lifesaving services. Routine mammography screenings are available by simply walking-in or scheduling an appointment by calling 585.423.5857. Individuals with acute breast health concerns should first consult their primary care physician.
